Promoting responsible shark dive tourism.

Hi - looking to book a trip to either cocos or socorro, would welcome any thoughts or advice from people who have been there.

I generally shoot wide angle so big critters are my focus so let me know what you saw, how many and when

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steven,
Cocos is one of the finest places on the planet for shark diving. The hammers can be difficult to approach but the schooling hammerhead shots that look like the sky is filled with sharks is a great alternative if you can't nail any close ups. And, you will get close hammer shots if you're patient and quiet.
Silkies and Galapagos sharks are pretty easy to get very close to and you'll end up getting so many shots of whitetip reef sharks that you'll be glad when they get out of the way.
Doing a night dive where the whitetips use your dive light to hunt and basically swarm you in the process can be a lot of fun.
Silvertips come in to one cleaning station and they're skittish. Most good shots come from divers with rebreathers.
Rays are omnipresent, as are morays. The parade of big animals just keeps swimming by. Its an epic trip.
The expedition I'm running next June (2011) will be very focused on shark encounters if you're interested.
Best,
Andy
