Celebrating the Majesty of Sharks.

Does anyone know when the best season is to see OWT in the Red Sea? Combined answer with best sighting spots?

Eric

Hi Eric

I believe november is a great time for longimanus and would advice you to go 'Brothers' . At that time there isn't to many people around 3-4 boats at the time.
I have done this Brothers/daedalius/Elphinestone cruise and had several close encounters with them + thresher and a few hammerheads. Aquarev in France does this trip with guest star Yves Lefevre from Rangiroa, French Polynesia every year at this time as a special shark trip - I have two pictures from my trip.

Hi Eric, I was there in may last year and we saw OWT in every single dive in Deadalous reef. We also visited The Brothers and had the luck to share the water with grey reef, threshers, and hammerheads on the same trip. I'm actually going back in may to St Johns and Deadalous when Blue O Two is running project Shark. Fancy joining me???
As far as I know any time between April-May and Oct-Nov is good.

You can Also get in touch with Elke Bojanowski in I Dive sharks, who is running the Longimanus project or via facebook . I'm sure they will be happy to help.

Thanks Kjeld!

Never been there in fall - always in april, but then again I've never seen the OWT.

Muchas gracias Igone!

You've had some great close encounters with them according to your photos! They are great.
It's funny, I have been in the Red Sea several times, and always in april (including Brothers and Daedalus) but then I have never seen them. In Sudan I was fortunate enough to se a big school om Hammerheads though...

Thank you for the invitation, but this years trips are all booked. Lembeh/Manado in april (it's not all about sharks hehe ;-) and Maldives in november.

But I think I'm in for the Red Sea again in 2011, perhaps then?
