Hey Alex,
Before you go to Tiger Beach you have to sign a waiver that explains that the colors; yellow, white and red will not be allowed as part of your diving gear. It was explained to us that these colors are the same colors as the fish used in t…
Thanks Katrien, Yep, that would be the "California kelp". Imagine putting on you gear and swimming through a thinned out corn field, without the corn...LOL
Hi Dean thanks for your suggestion.. Kauai sounds beautiful, and the turtles would definately keep my better half happy!! What is there to do on the island itself, as I won't be able to afford to do solid diving for 2 weeks and don't want to spend my time lying on a beach either! Greg
Hello Greg,
Kauai does not have a night life, the streets roll up around 8pm. If you want alone, peaceful time in the evening with someone, this would be it, If you like to go to clubs and listen to live music, they may have it, but you'll have to hunt for it. It's a beautiful island and you can go hiking at Waimea Canyon (Known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific) which boarders the Napali Coast line as well as hike to several water falls that are on the island. They have zip line tours, kayaking, and all kinds of outdoor activities. I would rent a car, although the road does not go all the way around the Island, you'll need one to get around. We've always stayed on the south side at the Lawai Beach Resort. They are spacious condo's with full kitchens (save money on eating out),balconys, pools, spas etc. The places are clean and can be rented for around $850.00USD per week. Sea Sports dive shop is 2 minutes away, a great, easy access to shore diving at Koala Landing (wwww.shorediving.com/Earth/.../Koloa_Landing/index.htm) It's 30 seconds from the dive shop. Right in front of the resort is one of the best snorkle spots on the Island! We've seen countless turtles, octopus, eels, and a host of tropical fish. A nice romatic dinner can be had at the Hyatt Beach House also located right in front of the resort, overlooking the snorkle area. A great breakfast can be had at the Robinson's Plantation right up the road and it's very reasonable...
Some other thing to do, but can cost $$, Helicopter tour, we went with Air-1, Bell 500D's with no doors, great shots of the island, A 3 tank boat dive at Niihau is worth the trip you can also do a sunset dinner cruise on a caterman.
You can do a simple Google search on all the places I mentioned, It is the wettest island as well so it may rain one second and be sunny for the next. Kauai is also where the filmed "Jurassic Park".
I hope I did'nt confuse you, To see sharks from a shore dive your best bet would be on the north side near the Napali coast, alot of white tips. The place is called Tunnels Beach, the road ends here.
