Just saw this clip about a nurse shark with a ring around the gills from Jupiter, Florida. I'm sure the photo/video people will have mixed reactions to some of the commentary :)

Hi Everybody!
As a new member maybe i should start with an introduction of myself...
Since i was a child i always loved oceans..
So all documentaries about mysterious species like octopus or sharks, i was watching them with a lot interest..
Then in 2008 I saw the movie "Sharkwater". Now i am more concerned about sharks than ever beccause I really did'nt know about this terrified truth (the shark finning , and all what happened every

I just saw a doc about the interest of keeping great white sharks in captivity in Aquarium http://www.montereybayaquarium.org like the one on California.
It stucked me!
So face to a giant aquarium we can observe the great white shark crossing other species like green turtles, tuna, the hammer heads sharks, and more...
Obvioulsy they try to feed the shark with pieces of salmon

Hey there,
As you can see I'm in a bit of a writing splurge at the mo so why waste it? It would be great to try and get some dialog going here so c'mon, let's get stuck in.
It would be cool to get some kind of idea as to why some of you guys feel the need to jump into the middle of what the mainstream media would have us believe to be the monsters of the deep. Is it for 'the Buzz' that adrenalin rush of being in the company of sharks? Is it borne of fascination with…

Hi All,
Well I recently had a brain bubble and posted the way that I learned to dive with the
Tiger Sharks in South Africa. Having seen the many styles and options for diving with Tiger Sharks I thought it only fair to do so. Saying that, south Africa is also, so far, the only place I have ever ventured to attempt shark cage diving.

Every school in America should have this in their Library, ( Do we still have libraries) Buy a copy for your brothers kid. Buy a few copies for your high school and donate them. The theme of protecting the sharks comes out loud and clear. The picture of the white puppy dog is priceless. (you'll have to get the book)
Way to go Jim!

Manuel Lazcano caught a great sequence: a Tiger shark dancing with me. Actually, I think she was interested in my camera - this was not the only instance of a tiger shark coming at my video camera. I had never seen a tiger shark come vertically up the way she did.
Of course this was not an aggressive behavior or a quick motion. She came up very slow and by gently hold out my camera I was…

Why do white sharks bite people?

Years ago I laughed at a Gary Larson's cartoon featuring "Al's Discount Shark Cages," an instant classic.
In the 10 years since I have seen little evidence of anyone building shark cages "on the cheap," until today.
Thanks Robin for the hat tip.
Apparently the new cage rage in Laguna Beach is, wait for it…

Some folks had started to put together some funny comments for this comical shot from Dean. Just thought it may be a bit of fun to have this posted as a Blog so folks can leave their comments at whim.
The way I see it:

Small Fish: "Look at all those bubbles, see I told you they must be scared?"
Big Fis…

Hi all.
When a group of folks get together for a common cause, the results can be awe inspiring, they can instill a sense of incredible satisfaction and achievement. I have experienced a multitude of emotions this morning after receiving the following communication from Michael Skoletsky at Shark Savers.
The incredible show of solidarity, the generous giving by the photographers and the word being spread so that folks could go out and help the cause was, and remains, something that leaves me wi…

There's an old French saying “Noblesse Oblige". It roughly translates in to Noble Obligation. Those that are on the front lines of an issue and can effect change have a noble obligation to do so.
Which gets us to the state of commercial shark diving worldwide. The industry is valued at $200-300…

I've had a few cool times in the past few years. Especially when it comes to working with sharks. In November 2008 I started what would be a six month stint of filming the Tiger Sharks of Aliwal Shoal in south Africa. This project was a prototype project to see if a long duration embed would / or could be viable in the hunt for increasingly rare footage.
I had been contracted by the 'Crittercam' department at Nat Geo to go and film these striped fish and what a life changing experience it turne…
